After a long morning at Cu Chi Tunnels (highly recommended), it was almost 3pm when we arrived back in Ho Chi Minh with very empty stomachs.
We have tried many noodle dishes in our Vietnam trip, including Bun Thit Nuong. However, we had just heard of a place in ‘HCMC’ that absolutely nails this dish… of course, we felt a moral obligation to visit!
Bun Thit Nuong Chi Tuyen is located in a very authentic District 1 street that doesn’t seem to attract many tourists. The place was packed with locals when we arrived (always a good sign), so we hurried to a table and ordered 2 bowls.
This mouth-watering rice noodle dish contains sticky barbecued pork, fried spring rolls (‘nem’ in Vietnamese), pickled cucumbers, carrots and radish, crushed peanuts and an abundance of local herbs. The strong flavours of the meat were perfectly contrasted by the freshness of the herbs, which created an amazing balance and lightness to the plate.
IN SHORT – This is easily one of our top 3 Vietnamese dishes. Rich but light, cheap and yet sophisticated.
