A hidden cafe with tasty treasures

After an exhausting morning cycling in 35 degree heat, we headed for a break at a cafe off the beaten track. Just out of the town center, the charming Kung’s Cafe is hidden down a small rue opposite the Ministry of Health. We say hidden, because our first attempt to find it ended up down the wrong street and almost in someone’s living room…

After eventually locating the cafe, we sat in the beautiful shaded outdoor garden, surrounded by decorative ornaments and hanging plants. We ordered the Phad Lao, Vegetable Curry and Mango rice pancake for dessert (15,000, 13,000 and 12,000 Kip respectively). The food was undeniably delicious and excellent value for a sit down cafe in Vientiane.

Secretly however, our main reason for coming to Kung’s Cafe was to try their infamous Iced coffee with coconut (12,000 Kip). A drink is very rarely the star of a meal but this time, this beverage, was different…just try it! The ambiance of the cafe alone is worth the visit, but the quality and price of their menu make it an absolute must in Vientiane.

IN SHORT – Come for the delicious food and amazing setting, but absolutely do not leave without tasting the Iced coffee with coconut!
