With only one night in Chiang Rai, we needed a cheap dinner, and we needed it fast.
Step forward Ja Jaroenchai, a well reputed Thai/Chinese restaurant that we instantly loved. The crazy cheap prices and simple interior meant the focus was completely on the food, just how we like it.
Pad makua sawuy, stir fried aubergine (eggplant) with minced pork, was our main dish and cost just 60 Baht.
These small green ‘Thai eggplants’ were expertly combined with flavours including garlic, chilli and basil to create an incredibly moreish flavour.
Based on this dish alone, we’re pretty sure everything else on the menu would have been just as tasty!
